Oh weddings. It seems our calendars are fast filling up with these love fests of late. And whether you are the bride, or a bridesmaid, or just a guest, dressing up and is always one of the highlights of the occasion. More so if you are the bride, aka the star of the best day of your life. So if the first day of your personal forever starts this year, check out our roundup of the top bridal fashion trends of 2017:
Bold Colors
Who says brides can only wear white? Not according to bridal couture designer Naeem Kahn, who surprised his audience by ending his FW 2017 fashion show with two gowns in shockingly bright canary yellow. If you want a dramatic entrance, go for gold (or bright blue or pink or whatever popping color you love), and bask in the looks of awe and sounds of gasps of everyone around you as you walk down that aisle.
Jumpsuit Trains
Wearing pants to your own wedding? Unthinkable right? Not quite! This is the 21st century after all. Who cares about the rules? Mark Zunino sure doesn’t as he let his models walk his runway in jumpsuits. And he took it a notch further by adding trains to trail behind the pantsuits. Be a bride makes a statement. It’s YOUR day after all.
Bows
Remember when Blair Waldorf made bows happen when Gossip Girl was on air? Well, bows are in again, in the bridal realm that is. Lela Rose and Zac Posen are making bows happen this year, as seen on their respective shows. From bow head pieces to bow sleeves and big ribbons at the back, bows were all over the runways this season.
Crop Tops
Crop tops aren’t just for music festivals anymore. It is subtly sexy, and can even be re-used with a different bottom for other events after your wedding. Of course, if you opt to bare your midriff as you say I do, get ready to dedicate months of core work and cardio prior to your big day.
Knits
If you opt for an outdoor wedding during the non summer months, you may be in for the chills. Houghton made chic knitted wraps to put over your gown to keep you from shivering throughout the reception. It is practical, and classy, too.
Short and Sweet
Worried about tripping down the aisle by accidentally stepping on the hems of your long gown? Fret not. Short wedding dresses were all over the runways during fall fashion week, from Marchesa to Oleg Cassini. Strut your stuff confidently once the bridal march starts playing without fear of slipping. Bonus, you get to show off your fabulous bridal shoes, too.
Ballet backs
From up on the stage to down the aisle, ballet inspired wedding gowns were on the runway at Inbal Dror and Anne Barge’s shows. Dror took inspiration from a ballerina’s criss crossing satin ribbon on a ballet shoe and made it a pretty criss crossing back detail on a gown. Ballet references on anything are always feminine and lovely, and what bride wouldn’t want to be both on her wedding day?
