Studies have shown that skin looks its best when you use products with multiple key ingredients rather than when you stick to just one concentrated ingredient. Vitamin C works best when in tandem with other products, and should certainly be included in your skincare must-have list. This powerful antioxidant is a weapon against slowing the aging process down and, in some instances, can even reverse premature signs of aging that have been caused by sun exposure, smoke and stress.
Vitamin C helps the skin look younger in several ways. It fights off free radicals which can do harm to us from the inside out, making us look older. As we get older, our collagen production starts dwindling, causing our skin to be less elastic. This results in us getting wrinkles. Vitamin C helps stimulate collagen production in the skin which helps soften the look of existing wrinkles, as well as preventing new ones. Other benefits of using Vitamin C includes the prevention of age spots from appearing on the skin. It also lightens the appearance of spots you already have, as well as reduces redness in the skin cause by inflammation and irritation. Another thing Vitamin C can do for you is to help fade redness and discoloration caused by acne. The overall effect is radiant, more even-toned skin.
There are many ways to take Vitamin C. The one we are most familiar with is taking it orally, which is great for keeping your immune system up. For the above-mentioned purposes, though, the best way is to use it topically. Spot application on areas that need it most is the most effective. This way, the benefits of the Vitamin C can be directly absorbed by the targeted area. As Vitamin C is a very strong acting ingredient and using serums or creams with 0.5% concentration already prove to be effective, there is no need for high doses at all.
