Why The Ordinary is Extraordinary

A common misconception among us beauty consumers is that the higher the price tag, the more effective it is. We almost subconsciously reach for the one with the showiest packaging on the shelf, or the one with the most billboard or magazine ads. Not to say these fancy schmancy stuff don’t work, because some of them actually do! However, wouldn’t it be great to have something with a little more bang for your buck?

The Ordinary is a cosmetic and skin care brand that prides itself with being straightforward and functional, two words not often used by beauty brands when marketing their commodities. No marketing frills are necessary for this brand—they solely depend on the efficacy of their products. As this Canadian skin care brand claims, it is all about “clinical formulations with integrity.”

Their product names are as simple and direct to the point as their packaging is. Their bestsellers include The Ordinary Retinoid 2%, The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, and The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone. Another bestseller, their Serum Foundation, had a 25,000 waitlist when it first came out! All the names tell you what the product contains, and you’ll know what your getting the moment you see it.

Oh, and did I mention that they are all under P1,000? I kid you not! Fact is—the basic superstar ingredients of skin care products on their own are cheap, but some high-end brands price them at staggering rates because they are so effective. The Ordinary does not. No need to tap into your life savings for this one, because it is totally affordable.

Just how effective are these products? The movers and shakers of the beauty scene have spoken. Popular makeup artist and YouTube personality, Wayne Goss, raved about the “Retinoid 2%” in one of his vlogs. “Most products have only 1% retinoid in them. The Ordinary has 2%. What retinol does is it tells the skin cells to ‘act younger’. It is a very powerful product. Amazing product…it is truly fantastic.”

Blogger, Suzie Bonaldi, writes on her blog, HelloOctober.com, “A more recent purchase from them which has quickly become a huge love of mine is the Salicylic Acid 2% Solution. So far this has been working wonders for me and I’ve actually found my recent breakouts haven’t scarred so much.”

And to top it all off, The Ordinary is 100% cruelty-free. In fact, the reason they are not available in China is that Chinese regulations require a product be tested on animals for it to be sold in the country. This brand does not test on animals and strictly require their suppliers not to do so.

The overall effectiveness, fuss-free approach to skin care, and affordable pricing are the main reasons why The Ordinary has been making huge waves in the beauty industry since it hit the scene. And as attested to by consumers themselves, The Ordinary is far from ordinary!
