Summer Skin Care

By: Cat Juan Ledesma

April is all about #StressFreeBeauty and as much as we love the summer months—out of town trips, holidays, ice cream runs—the heat and the sun can get to us. We’ve rounded up tips on how to deal with mishaps in these scorching hot days to keep you looking great in spite of, starting with skin care.

The sun is out in full force and the heat is getting to the point where you’d like to be in the least amount of clothing possible. Here are some changes you can make to your summer beauty regimen to stay healthy and cool.

Wear SPF protection all day, every day

With longer days means more chances for UV rays to work their damage on your skin. If you haven’t already, we recommend wearing a tinted moisturizer with an SPF protection of at least 30 daily. Don’t think that just because you aren’t by a body of water sipping a mojito that you can skip protection. Being beside a window or running from the parking lot is enough to cause long term ageing issues later on. Also invest in a cute hat you can leave in your car or pull out of your bag for your walks.

Go for lighter formulas

Humidity is a common problem in our tropical climate and you are less likely to want to give your skin the moisture it deserves if you stick to a thick lotion formula. Opt instead for a moisturizing body wash, which leaves a thin layer of moisture without weighing your skin down. Dry skin oils are also a nice alternative because they don’t feel heavy.

Keep skin cool

It’s nice to have a bit of flush to the skin, but angry skin is is nothing to be happy about. Rosacea: inflamed blood vessels that make the skin red and splotchy actually might become permanent if not treated. Keep skin calm and refreshed by using a mineral water spray every morning and night. We love the Avene Thermal Water Spray for its calming properties.

Exfoliate regularly

With summer scorching rays comes dry skin that can make your legs and arms look ashy instead of golden. I highly recommend dry skin brushing daily with a coarse dry brush before stepping into the shower. It’s such a great morning pick-me-up too. Finish off with a dry oil to lock in moisture and leave a healthy sheen to the skin.
