Last year, freckles hit the fashion scene by storm and became all the rage. There was a shift from wanting to get rid of them to women dotting their faces with brown pencils to simulate the look of freckled skin. But really, what are freckles and is freckled skin any different than others? These brownish spots are caused by exposure to sunlight. Simply put, freckles are just cells that contain more pigment called melanin.
Not everyone is predisposed to these – they’re actually genetic. My mom has freckles and when I hit my teens, I noticed mine slowly cropping up around my nose and cheeks.
People with fair complexions are more susceptible to being freckly than those with darker skin. This is because fair skinned people have less melanin so the sun’s UV radiation forces their skin to produce more melanin, which manifests in brown spots.
In terms of skin care, you need to go by your skin type so choose products that suit you best – be it oily, dry, or combination (age is also a factor). Remember that the eye area most especially needs special attention since this is where the skin is thinnest. No. 7 Protect & Perfect Eye Cream Intense gives that area of the face the care it needs. Aside from helping improve skin’s elasticity, it protects from the sun’s rays and free radicals.
Keep in mind that those with freckled skin are more sensitive to UV rays than others. It’s very important to make sure that you include major sun protection in your skincare routine. Look for a product with broad-spectrum sunscreen that will protect you from both UVA and UVB light such as the Innisfree Eco Safety Perfect Waterproof Sunblock. It helps reduce wrinkles and is great for sensitive skin.
Using sun protection products won’t get rid of your freckles but they will keep your skin safe from the elements. I personally love my spots and have never considered trying to remove them because each dot on my face is unique to me.
