1. Petrolatum – products containing petroleum have a pore-clogging effect on people with oily skin.
2. Toners containing alcohol – which strip the skin off its natural oils making you produce more oil in the end. Alcohol toners dry out the skin thus making it overcompensate for the loss of oil or moisture.
3. Mineral oil – clogs oily skinned pores.
4. Moisturizers which contain vegetable oil or butters which add more grease than moisturize. Look for a moisturizer with a glycerin base instead.
5. Wearing thick make up – you know the phrase “less is more” which we hear all the time from make up artists? It’s true: the less products you pile on, the longer it stays on without caking. If you have oily skin, thick makeup means cakey makeup.
6. Overuse of scrub – like toners, frequent scrubbing strips the skin and makes it dry, so again the skin produces more oil to make up for the lost oil.
7. Not freshening up after a workout – sweat mixed with oil on the surface of the skin leads to clogged pores.
8. Overwashing the face.
9. Sugary sweets. Refined sugars produce more acne and oil on the skin.
10. Layering on too many products all at once.
