Thanks to all the Korean content I’ve been consuming, I’ve recently learned the meanings behind certain flowers:
- According to my OG oppa, G-Dragon, who released a sneaker line that sold out in seconds, daisies symbolize peace.
- According to the drama I’m watching, Extraordinary You, light pink roses mean “you’re the only one who knows my heart”; while the orange bell-like flowers prevalent in the drama called Trumpet Creepers signify waiting.
Clearly, Koreans have a strong penchant for flowers, and now, it’s growing on me, too. Coincidentally, there’s a new brand available on Calyxta that’s Korean and floral-inspired: Mamonde. The name literally translates to “my world” and is a brand that’s dedicated to women in pursuit of “a world of their own.”
Ahhh, just the brand story itself makes me in love with it already! Flowers are beautiful, and carry with them a deep history and meaning, and I love that it possesses components that benefit the skin, too. Let’s get to know the floral-inspired products of Mamonde:
Aha, roses: a universally-loved, romantic flower, and now a popular beauty ingredient, too. This gel cream has concentrated rose water (specifically from Damask roses grown in morning dew!) that can give your skin a boost of moisture for long-lasting hydration.
Gentle as a petal, you can remove waterproof makeup with this product! It makes use of lotus extract, which helps cleanse your face off impurities for a clean, refreshing feel.
Now there’s also the rose-rich toner which soothes, hydrates, and moisturizes your skin! The formula contains 90.97 percent rose water! Imagine indulging your face in that! All these rose products actually remind me of the princes in the Joseon era who bathe themselves in rose water (see K-dramas for reference!).
A product inspired by the calendula flowers, this skincare essential promises sun protection sans the stickiness and oiliness. It provides protection from damaging UV rays as well as from other bad elements of the world.
