As with life, there is an order and time for everything, and the same holds true for skin care. Trust the process, follow it religiously, and you can do no wrong. Multi-step skin care routines have been all the rage in the past few years, leaving us confused not only as to which products to use and how to use them, but just as well as when to use them.
The goal is to be able to dissolve and breakdown the gunk on your face, to ensure that you’re able to remove everything completely. This is why a proper makeup remover or a cleansing oil are usually recommended as the first step.
If it’s the weekend and you didn’t leave the house and didn’t put on any makeup on either, you can go straight to this step. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser or facial foam to leave your skin fresh and prepped to receive the nourishing ingredients you’re about to put on for the night.
Don’t underestimate the power of a toner. It’s a necessary step to cleanse again as well as prime your skin and make it ready for nourishment. It’s best to choose a toner that addresses your skin issues and is formulated to your skin type.
Skin-treating products are next in line. If you have serums and other treatments prescribed by your derma, now is the time to layer them on, from the thinnest to the thickest. An anti-aging serum, for example, is quite thin in consistency, so feel free to apply it first. Just make sure it is fully absorbed by your skin well before moving on to the next product.
Add another layer of moisture to feed your skin as you sleep. A snail essence, for example, effectively repairs dry patches, breakouts, and hyperpigmentation.
Don’t forget the area around your eyes as it reveals your skin’s health and age when not taken care of.
Last but not least is the moisturizer or night cream, which sort of acts as a sealant to all the products you’ve applied. We cannot stress enough how important hydration is when it comes to skincare!
