We all know that washing your face at the end of the day is one of the most important rituals for maintaining healthy skin. But it’s important to remember that no two cleansers are exactly alike and what might work for your best friend might be too strong or mild for your needs. Here’s a breakdown of the various cleansers for a variety of skin types.

Oily Skin: If you have the type of skin that gets shiny by noon, a foaming cleanser will work best to help rid your face of excess sebum and grime by the end of your hectic day. Try to look for gentle antiseptic ingredients in your cleanser like tea tree or witch hazel to gently cut grease.

Dry Skin: Flaky and tight skin would benefit from a gentle cleansing using a cream cleanser that also leaves a thin film of moisture. Gently rub on and wipe off using a tissue or warm wash cloth. It’s also recommended that you don’t wash your face as often as your oily-skinned friends. Once at the end of the day should be more than enough. Try Avene Trixera+ Selectiose Emollient Cleansing Gel.

Sensitive/Red Skin: Flushed skin most often caused by Rosacea needs to be kept calm as much as possible by not using any super stripping cleansers. Use cool water while cleansing and look for a gel cleanser that has calming ingredients like aloe or licorice root extract. Also try complimenting your cleanser with Avene Thermal Spring Water to keep redness at bay.

Aging Skin: Fine lines and wrinkles don’t need to be made more prominent by stripping the skin of valuable moisture and plumpness. An oil cleanser is an effective way to remove daily grime without leaving the face tight. Look for anti-aging oils like sunflower, argan, or rosehip.
