Few live up to the vegan and cruelty-free hype, but Lime Crime has always been known to be against animal testing and non-toxic which is good for the environment, and people, including pregnant ladies. So the launch of a nail color line from Lime Crime is very exciting with their love for bright pops of extraordinary and unexpected colors. The way I gauge if polish is good or not, is how good the color pay-off is with just one coat. Before opening the bottle I gave it a good few rolls between the palms of my hands.
- Remember to roll and never shake your polish bottles to avoid air bubbles. I tried the polish on both my hands, on one hand I used a base coat I had laying around the house and on the other hand I did not apply a base coat to see how it would fair.
- Upon applying just the first coat, the color pay-off was already very promising. I gave each nail one coat and let it dry to the touch for around 5mins. Once I felt it was dry enough I applied another coat. Two coats and the color pay-off was already perfect.
- After letting my nails air dry for another 5 minutes and when the polish felt dry to the touch I opted to not use a top coat to see how my nails would fair during a normal day. With most polishes I use and with the amount of work I do using my hands, even the best top coat in the market cannot usually fair up and I usually end up with a chip by the next day. I have to say I was quite impressed that even without using a top coat, and the polish being vegan and non-toxic which usually means they chip even faster than its non-vegan counterparts, it held up quite well.
- Drying time was quick, color pay-off was amazing, shine was impeccable despite not using a topcoat and the wear was pretty long lasting.
The only complaint I have would be about its packaging. Lime Crime is known to have really fun and funky packaging for their products so I was a bit let down since it seemed like not much thought was put into the design of the packaging of their nail polishes but other than that it’s a great product that I wouldn’t mind collecting more of and using on a frequent basis.
