Ways To Properly Conceal Blemishes And Make It Last Throughout The Day

By Cat Juan Ledesma

You may no longer be a hormonal teenager yet it’s a sad fact that the acne that was a common companion in high school still likes to pop up every so often. Fear not because with today’s makeup, one can be a magician and make those annoying marks disappear…at least until you’re in the safety of your own home.  Here are some helpful tips:

Choose matte over shimmer any day: Many makeup artists agree that shimmer has no place in a concealer, especially for concealers that will be used to cover up a red or dark acne mark. Choose the most opaque, matte concealer around.

Cream over liquid: Cream or cake concealers will do a better job of covering your pimple over the liquid variety. They also have a tendency to last much longer.

Stipple don’t stroke: When it comes to making an acne mark go away, the secret is to press the cream concealer into the mark more than stroke it by using a beauty blender or sponge.

Expand the perimeter: Don’t just place your concealer on the actual blemish but create a circle of concealer around it that, blending with your fingers to match the rest of your face. I often make my perimeter a little smaller than a 25-centavo coin. It makes the concealer look more natural.

Choose a concealer shade slightly lighter than your foundation: Especially for dark blemishes. But, I repeat, only by one level. Making it too light will draw attention to the spot.

Set with powder: The enemy of staying power is oil, so be sure to set your blemish with a translucent setting powder.

Try a double layer: If you plan to be out the whole day, try placing your concealer then setting it powder and repeating the process for a guarantee that your camouflage will stay on longer than you plan to stay out.
