Mascara is just one of those products that is a no-brainer to have in one’s makeup kit. Such a seemingly simple product can give dramatic results and is worth that extra step in your make up routine. There are so many types of mascara out in the market though, so how do you know which one is right for you? Here’s a run down of what you might come across when make up shopping:
Curling: A curling mascara is one that promises to hold the curl of your eyelashes all day. This type of mascara is perfect for people with very straight and stiff eyelashes and who find that even using an eyelash curler keeps it hard to hold a curl.
Lengthening: A lengthening mascara is usually the choice for a lot of avid mascara users. The goal is to look like you were born with naturally long fluttery lashes. This product usually has fibers in it that help extend the length of your natural lashes.
Volumizing: If you have very sparse or light colored lashes, look for a volumizing mascara. This type of mascara has a special shaped or rubber bristle brush that packs on the product onto your eyelashes to help give the illusion of maximum volume.
All-in-one: A lot of mascaras promise to deliver all-in-one results. Curl, Volume and Length. But I have yet to find one that does all three perfectly. Usually you will need to use two or more mascara products to get your desired effect all-in one effect.
Waterproof: Perfect for individuals with oily eyelids, those who will sweat, swim or will most likely cry, like brides on their wedding day. Waterproof mascaras ensure your mascara stays in place all day and wont drip down your face for any reason. The only downfall of waterproof mascaras is that it can be quite difficult to remove and without the right eye makeup remover product, it can cause irritation to the eye and loss of eyelashes if not careful.
Smudge proof: Smudge-proof mascara promises to be the middle ground between a waterproof and a regular mascara. It is not 100% waterproof but should not smudge onto your under eye area. Some smudge proof mascaras though are just as hard to remove as waterproof mascaras.
Fiber: The introduction of fiber-based mascaras have changed the face of mascara for everyone. There are two types of fiber mascaras. One with fibers built-in the mascara for just a one step process while others require 3 steps where you apply the base mascara first in black then the actual fibers in a mascara tube form usually in white or also in black then set again with the 1st step mascara to seal and finish off. These give the most dramatic false eyelash effect results and are generally water-resistant and not as difficult to remove thus has become a quick beauty cult favorite.
