I’ve never been one of those girls who likes things to be perfect. While the rest of the country, it seems, is striving to create a face that’s completely made up, I kind of prefer for things to look a little undone. I’ve always liked how makeup looks towards the end of the party rather than at the beginning. Honestly, whats more beautiful than a woman crawling at the crack of dawn looking flushed, slightly disheveled and glowing from dancing the night away?
But lets not get carried away with ourselves, I’m not saying that you should look like a complete wreck. A little smudge and shine never hurt anyone, but by no means should you look like something the cat dragged in. Having a small retouch kit is a good idea for those planning to party ‘til the wee hours. Here are some essentials:
Oil-control blotting papers. I love these. They take no up almost no space at all in a purse and are so great at keeping your face from looking like an oil slick. Just press it against your skin focusing on the t-zone and it soaks all excess oils right up without disturbing your makeup.
Pressed Translucent Powder. For those not a fan of the dewy look, this one does the trick. When I’m doing my makeup at home I always opt to use loose setting powder but pressed powders are a must have for anyone on the move. Make sure to get one that’s translucent so it doesn’t alter the color of your makeup. Also, choose a compact with a mirror so you can sneak in a makeup check peek.
Lipstick or Lip gloss. As a makeup artist, one of the most common questions I’m asked is how I can get my lipstick to last. Here’s the truth—you can’t. Yes, you can use lips pencils, layer your makeup, apply long-wearing lipstick but if you’re going to be wining and dining you’ll most definitely need a touch-up. Don’t forget to put that tube of lipstick in your bag.
Mints. To keep your breath fresh. You’ll never know what might happen.
