A bright red lip has made its permanent mark in beauty, but a fine wine hue is slowly becoming a favorite among celebrities and makeup artists alike because the shade instantly sets you apart from the rest. It’s also the it-shade to don these days since the goth-chic trend has found its way to our hearts.
The way to wear this deep hue is simple: keep your skin immaculate, allow your eyes to be bare (save for 2 coats of mascara), have softly-defined brows, and let your lips do the talking.
First, perfect skin using a concealer only on areas where you need camouflaging most like dark under eye circles, blemishes, and redness. Afterwards, lightly dust some translucent powder to set your concealer. Groom brows with a brow mascara, then pat a neutral shade of eye shadow onto lids. For cheeks, choose a neutral shade as well—nothing too pink or bright so that the focus will be solely on your lips.
When it comes to choosing the right shade of plum according to your skin tone, keep in mind that brighter, more pinkish tones will suit fairer skin while deeper and more towards the burgundy spectrum.
To apply, it’s best to start with a lip liner, making sure to line AND fill lips using the lip liner. This will help prep your lips for lipstick application, and will make your lip color last waaaay longer since the lipstick will adhere to the pigment of the lipliner.
As a finishing touch, use a tissue sheet to blot lips. This helps to get rid of excess lipstick and ensures you won’t be seeing lipstick stains all over your teeth.
