Must-Haves On Your Wedding Day

By: Amanda Padilla

When people do wedding make up, the intention is for it to be bulletproof. Primer, powder and setting spray become mandatory on this most important day. This, however, is a long day where anything can happen—there is a good chance of tears, sweat (the lights, veil and dress layers pretty much guarantee it) and oil (people are going to be kissing your cheeks all day). I highly recommend getting your make up artist to stay until the reception to help you tweak your look. Another good idea is to put together a little retouch kit and have someone who will be close to you all night, like a bridesmaid, to hang on to it.

Take some time a few days before the wedding to build a retouch kit that will fix any beauty emergencies that might happen. Buy these products in travel size and put them in 3 separate ziplock bags: one for make up, one for hair, and one for medical and dental issues. Here are your retouch kit essentials:

For your face:

  • translucent pressed powder (Don’t use loose powder because it can be messy)
  • a medium-sized powder brush
  • blush (ideally blush sticks or liquid cheek tints as they are the easiest to use for retouches)
  • eyelash glue (this is very important! The inner corner of your falsies could come loose if you start to tear up during the ceremony). Also, have a toothpick stashed in the kit so you can precisely apply the lash glue to the spine of your falsies.
  • waterproof eyeliner
  • waterproof mascara
  • lip liner
  • lipstick (bring your favorite neutral or pink. If you love the lipstick your make up artist used on you ask for the name and brand so you can buy a tube of it)
  • lip balm (for chapped lips)
  • lip brush
  • concealer (for pimples or dark circles under the eyes.)
  • oil blotting paper
  • tissues
  • q-tips
  • straw (this will help make your lipstick last longer.)
  • scissors
  • double-sided tape
  • perfume

For hair:

  • hairspray
  • dry shampoo (to be sprayed at roots if hair gets oily or goes flat)
  • comb or brush
  • hair tie
  • bobby pins

For medical or dental purposes (put one or two pills for each in a small pill box so you don’t have to bring the whole container with you):

  • pain reliever
  • antacid
  • allergy medication
  • deodorant
  • mints
  • toothbrush
  • toothpaste
  • floss
  • eyedrops
