Glitter anything always makes me happy, and ss much as I would love to wear glitter all day, everyday it just isn’t appropriate or practical. So save the glittery lips and eyelids just for special occasions or photo sessions. But for when that special occasion does come and present itself, its time to bring out all those glittery makeup items you bought that caught your eye but you never knew how to wear out without looking like a disco ball.
I love a glittery eye. Whether it be the whole lid or as subtle but still dramatic as a glittery liquid liner, the options are endless. To be safe, after choosing an area to highlight with glitter, select a color that is either neutral for a more formal evening event or more of a bold color to make a statement while clubbing or at a fun party. The chunkier the glitter the more obvious, the more fine milled the less obvious the glitter is but still giving you that glittery shine that looks so beautiful especially in photos.
- Find the appropriate occasion to use glitter- This can be tricky because depending on the type of glitter you plan to use, there are different occasions where they may be appropriate and where they will be not for example at a corporate work place or at school. As a general guideline there more chunky, obvious or vibrant the glitter, the more towards the evening they are appropriate.
- Once you have identified your appropriate occasion, you need to consider the different types of glitter makeup options that are available or identify what you have on hand. A quick rundown would be, cosmetic grade glitter, loose glitter, glitter pigments, pressed glitter, glitter liquid liner, glitter cream pencils, glitter eye creams, glitter lipsticks, glitter glosses, etc. The easiest I find to work with is pressed glitter pigments, glitter creams and glitter liquid liners since these already have an adhering agent to it so will be less messy to work with and thus less likely for fall out onto your face or worse into your eyes.
- Next you want to choose what area of your face you want to focus on. The key to not looking like a disco ball is placing the glitter just on one area of your face that you want to highlight. I wouldn’t recommend glitter lips for an event or night out because they tend to look chunky and messy in person and you will end up just eating some if not all of the glitter from talking, eating or drinking. Glitter lips are perfect for photo shoot opportunities since they photograph beautifully but are not that practical choice to wear out when you have to socialize. If you want a shimmery effect on your face, a really fine milled glitter used as a highlighter placed strategically on the high points only of your face to catch the light in a champagne hue will light up your face like a glow from within effect. But also remember that you want to use a light hand and not over apply over your whole face. The best area to go all out with your glitter use is on the eyes as long as you keep the rest of your face more natural and subdued.
