Contouring is one of my all-time favorite make up techniques to use because of how it refines and perfects a person’s bone structure. I contour every single face I do makeup on, in one way or another. There is a perception that contouring needs to be a harsh cut-crease resulting in sharp cheekbones and a tapered nose line. That is a gorgeous look. Night time shadows make dramatic contouring look beautiful; broad daylight, however, can be less forgiving.
When it comes to make up, less is more, especially in the harsh light of day. The goal is to add a little bit of dimension to your face so it does not look flat, but it needs to be so subtle that people don’t notice it.
-Start by prepping your skin with a moisturizing primer. Eve Pearl makes a great one. This step is essential because will make your cream contour blend smoothly.
-Add a cream foundation that is two shades darker than your skin tone on the parts that need it. This serves as your contour. If you have a high forehead, put some along your hairline. If your nose is wide, draw thin strips along the edges of your nose. Define your cheekbones by drawing a diagonal line on the hollows of your cheeks. Again, Eve Pearl makes a fantastic cream foundation.
-Use a foundation with light to medium coverage all over your face. Use it on top of the cream contour and blend. This will result in foundation that looks seamlessly blended. A flawless, defined face that is completely appropriate of the day.
-Set your foundation with a light buffing of translucent powder using a fluffy powder brush.
-Perfect this look by adding highlights along the nose line, above the brows and on top of the cheekbones. Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Lighting Palette is the holy grail of all highlighters. It is undetectable because unlike other highlighters it does not have any glitter or leave on chunky shimmer. It makes you look like you are having the best skin day ever.
