We all may not have been blessed with amazing bone structure. But what you weren’t born with can easily be remedied with a simple play of shadows and lights using contour and highlighters. Here are some helpful tips.
How to choose the best contour and highlighter for you:
Pick a contour color that’s one to two shades darker than your normal foundation. Any darker and it will look muddy and streaked. The same goes for your highlighter, it needs to offer you a bit of shimmer without looking pale or chalky on the skin. I recommend always checking the product in daylight before purchasing. Powder versions often easier to blend than cream ones, but the pros of using cream is that they have a tendency to last longer.
How to do basic contouring:
1 Find your cheekbone: feel around your face with your fingers while smiling. Note the hollow area right beneath your cheekbones. That’s where you want to contour.
2. Brush the contour in the hollow under your cheekbones using an angled brush. It will probably look quite strong right now so don’t worry.
3. Using your fingers, blend the line upwards till it looks like a natural shadow of your cheekbones.
Remember that blending is key when it comes to contouring. Try Tarte The Sculptor Contouring Face Slenderizer for cream or Hourglass Illume Creme to Powder Bronzer Duo for a more powdery finish.
How to do basic highlighting:
1. Accentuate your new angular cheekbones by putting a stroke of highlighting powder right above the apples of your cheeks.
2. You can also make your eyes come alive by placing a bit on the inner corners and brow bone.
3. All face shapes, except for ovals, can also benefit from placing highlighter at the center of your forehead. Put a little right above the cupid’s bow of your cheeks too for a pouty look.
Remember that highlighters are to be used in places where you want to call more attention. Try Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette to give you that natural glow.
