With our tropical climate getting hotter each year, keeping makeup on has become a problem. Heat and humidity often lead to our oil glands producing excess oil and sweat, and this results to our makeup melting away. Thankfully, the beauty-verse has given birth to new generation primers — they manage to keep our makeup from slipping off, and allow us to look fresh-faced no matter how high the temperature rises.
How are primers different from moisturizers? Well, moisturizers sink into skin so that they can provide hydration. Primers, on the other hand, create a layer on top of skin. This layer helps fill in pores and lines so that a perfectly smooth surface can be laid out before the makeup application. The primer is the base which makeup sticks into. A primer also forms a barrier between sweat and oil and makeup.
To properly apply the primer, you have to first make sure that your skin is properly cleansed. Afterwards, apply your moisturizer, and wait for two to three minutes for it to set. Then you can apply the primer starting with your T-zone and eyelids as these areas are the most prone to sweat and oil before finishing off with the rest of the face. Complete your base with your foundation. Apply this in a tapping motion, and you’re good to go!
For a lasting makeup base, here are our best recommendations:
1. Best for oily skin: Banila Co. Prime Primer Classic, P1,060
Made especially for oily skin, this minimizes the appearance of pores and grants skin a silky and powdery finish.
2. SPF-Armed: GIRLACTIK SKIN PRIMER, P1,680
Keep skin fresh and protected with a primer that also doubles as your sun shield.
3. Non-disruptive Powder: OFRA Translucent Highlighting Luxury Powder, P850
It blurs the look of large pores and fine lines and extends the wear of your makeup with its oil-absorbing power.
