Beyond Lips: 5 Alternative Ways To Use Your Lippies

By: Yasha Barretto

“Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick and pull yourself together.”

So said the late, great, Dame Elizabeth Taylor. Lipstick is essential in every girl’s vanity kit. From ravishing reds and playful pinks, to natural nudes, there is a color that suits every type of personality, mood, and event in a girl (or guy’s) life. But aside from coloring your puckers, this classic beauty staple is also a multitasking tool. Here’s a rundown of some innovative ways you can use your lipstick tubes:

  1. To add a pop of color to your cheeks. Scenario: You’re running late for a date with that cute guy you’ve been eyeing for weeks, and when D-day finally comes, in your haste (or general excitement that your brain suddenly can’t think straight), you forget to pick up your kikay kit. All you have in your tiny night out bag is a tube of lipstick. Fear not, because this tube can double as a creamy and blendable blush. Dab it on your fingertips and blend on the apples of your cheeks for that naturally rosy look. Plus, it will automatically complement your lip shade, given that you’ll likely use the same color for both your puckers and cheekbones.

  1. For contouring. Scenario: You’re watching one of Kim Kardashian’s contouring video tutorials online and want to follow it step by step. Problem is, you don’t own all those contour palettes and color correctors and highlighters. Well, guess what, you can substitute these with your neutral, nude, or brown shades of lipstick. Now you can contour like a true Kardashian!

  1. To camouflage tattoos. Scenario: Though tattoos are far from being taboo nowadays, there may be certain instances when you need to cover up some prominent ink on your skin. Start with covering up your skin art with a layer of red lipstick. Let it dry then, apply some concealer over the red lipstick and finish off by dusting translucent powder on it. Voila, it will be like it was never there.

  1. As a pen. That iconic mirror scene in “Butterfield 8” where Liz Taylor writes a message on her dresser mirror comes to mind. But besides that, consider this scenario: You’re at a gig in a bar and want that hot lead singer to play your favorite song. Why not write your request on a napkin with your red lipstick and seal it with a kiss for added flirt points? Add plus points if your lipstick is red.

  1. As an eyeshadow. Most of us invest in powder eyeshadow palettes with a gazillion shades on them. But what if you find yourself in this scenario: It’s girl’s night and you’re all set, but that one favorite shade of eyeshadow in your palette you use for everything has run out. Lipstick to the rescue! If you have a tube that closely matches that eyeshadow, use it at a substitute for your fave shadow. Don’t forget to use a nude lippie as a base first, to get the maximum effect.
