Whether you’re a beauty newbie or someone who has been obsessed with makeup ever since you picked up your first lipstick, there’s one trend that has withstood the test of time and is easily a go-to among us all, especially on days when we’re too lazy to think of what specific look to wear. That’s the monochromatic makeup look. Choosing the same hue to wear on your lids, cheeks, and lips seems easy enough—but even as a makeup artist, I’ll admit that I sometimes have a hard time looking for the right products and shades
to match (after all, you need to pick the right eye shadow palette, the right
blush, and the right lipstick to complement one another).
Top to Bottom: Coral Dream, Crimson Pink, and Evening Plum
Start off by dabbing the lipstick directly on your cheeks. My technique is I dot three spots on the apples of my cheeks and blend them with my fingers. You can easily repeat this step if you want to build more color. Remember—it’s easier to build makeup rather than applying too much and having to remove the excess after.

Of course, the third step is to apply the lipstick on my lips! I love how the formulation is so lightweight and comfortable that it actually feels more like a lip balm than a lipstick. If it’s a daytime look, you can apply just one layer for a sheer effect. But if it’s an evening look, you can build on it and add more!
Wearing Evening Plum
Lastly, seal the color on both lids and cheeks with a translucent powder. Remember that liquid or cream products need to always be sealed in by powder to prevent them from moving or melting. This also ensures that it stays on all day!
But what if I told you that there’s an easy hack that cuts down three products into one? Check out these different monochromatic looks I was able to pull off using SKIN by John Robert Powers’ Moisturizing Lip Colors with SPF 15 in Coral Dream, Crimson Pink, and Evening Plum!
Next, with your pinky finger, pick up a bit of the lipstick and then apply directly on your lids. I usually apply the color all over my lid, before blending outwards and in a sweeping motion. But if I want to add a bit more depth, I build the same color on the outer corner area.
