Summer is the season where your hair takes the biggest beating. With outdoorsy activities like beach trips lined-up, exposure to the elements can leave hair looking a little frazzled. Here are some tips on how to keep your hair in the best possible shape in the months to come.
- Get a trim. Get rid of those dried out ends and split-ends. Dry hair is more prone to damage and could get worse very quickly.
- The warm weather tends to make the scalp extra oily while drying out the hair. It’s very important that when you shampoo you use the product near the scalp, focus on the top half of the hair. Target the conditioner towards the tips of the hair and really massage the product into your hair so it fully absorbs all the benefits of the product.
- Frequent sun exposure, beach trips and poolside afternoons can leave you hair feeling drier than the Sahara. Deep condition your hair twice a week. Put it in a shower cap and leave on as long as possible.
- Your hair is like a sponge that absorbs liquid when it is dry. If you jump in a pool with dry hair it will absorb chlorine and chemicals in the water. In the beach, your hair absorbs salt water. Both are extremely drying and damaging for the hair. Before taking the plunge, saturate your hair completely with tap water or leave in conditioner to prevent this from happening.
- When hair is parched, it absorbs moisture from the air and this is what causes frizz. In the summer, humidity is at an all time high and this does not help the situation at all. Aside from keeping hair well conditioned, using an anti-frizz serum or hair oil can be helpful in keeping this problem at bay.
- Easy up on using hot tools on your hair. Use the cold setting when blow drying your hair and try not to use your flat and curling irons too frequently.
