Summer’s hot months call for a change in hairstyle, and the pixie cut is one style that never grows old for this season. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it adds ultra-chic appeal to its wearer. It’s important, however, to take into consideration the shape of one’s face as the pixie cut is better pulled off when it’s customized to your particular features. Here, Vidal Sassoon-trained Jude Hipolito, the Creative Director of JuRo Salon Exclusif, enlightens us on how to wear the short hair right.
An oval face
“An oval shape has a wider forehead and tapers towards the chin, and is considered the ideal face shape. All kinds of pixie cuts will suit this face shape. However, there are other areas of consideration, such as one’s facial profile, length and shape of the nose, or if you wear eyeglasses,” shares Jude.
A square face
“A square face shape has the same width on the forehead, cheekbones and jaw line,” Jude says. To soften up these boxy features, he chooses pixie cuts with asymmetrical designs. “You have to create volume on the top and crown areas with rounded sides and back of the head. The aim here is to create an illusion of length, softness and narrowness on the face.”
A heart-shaped face
Lastly, there’s the heart face shape which features a prominent forehead which tapers into a pointy chin. Jude suggests getting a pixie cut with a side-swept fringe, which will decrease the width of the forehead. You can also add volume and softness at the jawline to increase the width at the lower part of the face.
Jude believes that in the end, it is your haircutter’s eyes, experience and skills that count in designing the perfect pixie cut for you. Try it!
