New Korean V Look

By: Amanda Padilla

When I do make up on a client, they almost always request for me to contour their face. Looking slimmer and having sky high cheekbones is on the top of almost every girl’s list of coveted features. Ladies have gone to great lengths to achieve a slimmer face be it by using bronzer and contour powders to actually going under the knife. Koreans, always on the cutting edge of beauty, have found a way to further sculpt the face using your own hair.

The newest hair trend to hit the K-Pop market is called the V Look, it is named after that most desired face shape. The goal of this haircut is to contour the face into looking like a letter V- wider at the cheekbones, then tapers off and is most narrow at the chin.

This haircut is flattering on everyone from square faced to round, and for straight and curly hair alike. The V Look haircut is fringed along the sides of the face. It has layers that hit the jaw area cutting the jawline making it look smaller. Wisps of hair frame the sides of the face covering parts of the cheeks emphasizing the cheekbones. Its a very versatile look, you can keep the length of the hair in the back long or mid-length. It looks great whether you flat iron it or curl it.

The look is completed by coloring the hair in a tone that complements the natural skin tone of the client. Bright colors are recommended as it helps add to the illusion of having a longer face. This hair cut goes great with ombre as well because it softens the fringes as well as adding length to the face.

My favorite way to wear this hairstyle is by adding product to the hair while still damp and letting it air dry. The end result is sexy, unfussy, piece-y hair that looks effortlessly beautiful. It’s the perfect low maintenance look.
