How to Tame Frizzy Hair

Living in the tropics might be amazing for our skin but it is just a nightmare for our hair. Frizz happens when your hair is dehydrated; it acts like a sponge absorbing moisture from the air. And with this humidity, that means a lot of frizz. Fortunately, this problem is manageable with a few easy steps.

1. Use a sulfate-free shampoo. This helps tame and hydrate the hair shaft. Other shampoos tend to strip the hair of its natural moisture. When hair is well hydrated it doesn’t have room to absorb any more moisture from the air.

2. Skip a shampoo day a couple of times a week.

We all shampoo more than we actually should. Try using just conditioner on your hair twice a week. Here’s a tip, focus shampooing around the scalp area until around the mid area of your hair. And apply conditioner generously towards the tips of your hair. This keeps hair from getting frizzy without making it look greasy. Using too much shampoo on the tips of your hair makes it dry, and too much conditioner on the roots makes your hair flat.

3. Use hair oils and frizz control serums while hair is still wet.

This locks in moisture without weighing your hair down.

4. Treat yourself to a deep conditioning hair mask.

Do this at lease once a week to make sure hair is hydrated. The healthier your hair the less frizzy it will be.

5. Let hair air dry. Using direct heat on hair tends to dehydrate the strands causing it to frizz. Use a blow drier when the hair is almost dry, just to style it. Seal in the cuticles with a blast of cool air to finish.

6. Do a monthly keratin treatment.

This is a semi-permanent way to smoothen out hair.

7. Sleep with a silk scarf wrapped around your hair. This is an old Hollywood secret used by Marilyn Monroe to prevent static and frizz. This also prevents your pillowcase from absorbing moisture from hair. You could also use a silk pillowcase.
