Tools needed: Haircutting shears, a fine-tooth comb, mirror
Step 1:
Determine how much of your hair you want as your bangs. Tie the rest of your hair into a ponytail to keep it out of the way. Work with dry hair, if you cut your hair when it is wet it will end up much shorter than you intended. Comb your hair downward towards your face.
Step 2:
Start with the middle section of the hair. Do not pull your hair when you are cutting because, again, it’ll be short than you want it to be. Use the comb as your guide – put it underneath your bangs and line it up to where you want to cut it. Angle the scissors upward and make tiny cuts. Never cut your hair horizontally unless you want your bangs to look chopped. Bangs frame a face best when the middle section is the shortest part and it gets a little longer towards the side.
Step 3:
Cut the hair on the right side at a 45 degree angle towards your face. Continue to use small cuts. Make sure that the strands get longer as you cut further away from your face. Do the same thing on the left side but angle the scissors the opposite way. Make sure to cut your hair gradually, you can always cut more but once its chopped off it’s impossible to undo.
Step 4:
Comb through your bangs with your fingers and see if you like how it looks. Really move your hair around so you can see what it looks like from all angles. If it need more cutting repeat the steps above. Style your bangs the way you would like to wear them and check if it needs more fine tuning.
