DIY Hair Blow Out

By: Amanda Padilla

There are few things I love as much as a professionally done blowout. But honestly, who has the time to go to the salon a few times a week just to have it done? Here are some tips on getting salon like results in the comfort of your own home.

Tools:

A good blow dryer: I suggest one with a hot and cold air setting, and has a nozzle which helps direct the air to exactly where you want it.

A round thermal brush: The size of the brush depends on the type of waves you want. A large brush creates looser waves while a small brush produces tighter curls.

Alligator clips

Products:

Volumizing spray

Lightweight gel or mousse

Steps:

Start with a freshly washed head of hair. Use a little bit of the lightweight gel or mousse starting from the roots of the hair then work your way to the tips. Add volumizing spray at the roots of your hair. This will help your blowout last for days without going flat.

Dry your hair using your blow drier. Use your hand to shake out your hair while doing this. Stop when your hair is about ninety percent dry.

Section your hair from ear to ear; it should look like a half ponytail. Hold the top half with your alligator clip. Divide the lower section vertically into two parts. You can already start blow-drying if you wish but for a sleeker look you might want to make the sections even smaller.

Start blow-drying. Focus on the ends. Use your brush and at the middle of the hair shaft and work your way down. When you reach the ends roll the brush inwards. Repeat this step on the other sections.

Make sure to focus on the hair that is framing your face. The hair on the back of your head can be difficult to dry. Just try to bring it forward towards your face and focus on blow drying the ends.

Brush out your hair with fingers to finish off the look.

Doing the perfect blowout on yourself takes just a little bit of practice. Do this for a couple of weeks and you are sure to get the hang of it.
