As we’re all prepping for the coming holiday season (Wait, HOW many days until Christmas?), let’s take a look back and play a little catch up with Calyxta’s diverse and gorgeous October cover girls of years past.
With her family behind both Mexicali and El Chupacabra, and being the niece of Chiqui Mabanta of ‘Corner Tree Café’ fame, providing great food to the masses seems to run in Bianca’s blood. A proud vegan for over 10 years, she founded the Philippine’s first all-vegan and gluten-free restaurant, Susi, right here in the Metro. Since its opening, it’s gotten rave reviews and has been praised for breaking the stereotype that all vegan food is tasteless and unexciting. Dare I say it—she’s even managed to add a hint of sexiness to it. As if she wasn’t already hot enough, before becoming Calyxta’s honorary cover girl, she even started her own brand of vegan hot sauce, Aeta Organics. Proceeds from it help to improve elementary education in Pastolan, Subic. A gal with beauty and a big heart? That’s Bianca.
You don’t need a whole army of products to get smooth and healthy-looking hair like Bianca’s. Just reach for Toni & Guy’s Sea Salt Texturizing Spray (P890) after you shower and apply all over towel-dried hair to give it a nice texture! For regular wash, we highly recommend Ysabel’s Daughter’s Lavender Shampoo (P535) and Conditioner (P525).
One of the country’s most sought-after fashion photographers, Shaira has been keeping busy both in front and behind the camera since sharing her beauty tips as Calyxta’s cover girl. You may remember her as one of the genius ‘wonder kids’ featured in a popular commercial in the 90s, but Shaira eventually found her true calling in photography. Nowadays, she snaps gorgeous pics of both ordinary subjects and celebrities alike, including fellow Calyxta cover girl Andi Manzano’s very own daughter, Olivia. While she may be photographing fashionable pieces as part of her career, Shaira is also quite the fashion icon as well and even schooled us on this year’s hottest trends as part of SM’s Style Stories. Earlier this month, she launched her first book, “Playing Long After Us,” which is a collection of visual short stories filled with pictures shot in Shaira’s signature, vintage style. Shaira has admitted to Calyxta that she dyes her own hair. You can also cop her perfectly straight locks with a regular flat iron. To give it extra shine, apply 2 to 3 drops of Toni & Guy’s High Shine Serum Drops (P990). Regularly maintain it with an effective thickening and strengthening shampoo like Zenutrients Gugo Shampoo (P249).
After winning Cycle 5 of Asia’s Next Top Model, and the first Filipina to do so, life for Maureen has been a whirlwind of activity from campaigns to photoshoots. In fact, she’s Palmolive’s newest product endorser promoting their Palmolive Expertique line. Despite living most of her life outside of the Philippines, namely Saudi Arabia (where she was born) and Germany, she’s definitely no stranger to Philippine culture. Thanks to her Filipina mother being a regular cook of local dishes for her and her family, she’s kicked back at various local beaches and plans to visit more. Last year’s Calyxta cover girl isn’t just a pretty face though—she’s a kind soul that also keeps busy serving as ambassadress of the ICanServe foundation helping cancer survivors. No more than two weeks ago, she graced the cover of Metro magazine with the stunning French Riviera as her backdrop and served us timeless beauty on every page.
To mimic Maureen’s mane, generously lather Zenutrients Coconut Smoothening Shampoo (P249) onto wet hair and gently apply from the middle to the ends of hair. After blow-drying hair, use a curling iron to create soft waves or curls. Set the style and retain that va-va-voom volume with the Toni & Guy Body Amplify Creation Hairspray (P960), then either leave hair as is or pin back some of the hair near the top of your head for a classic glam effect.
