When it comes to our health and self-care, there are so many things we don’t pay attention to. And lip care is one of them. Here’s how to really care for your puckers!
I’d like to put emphasis on the word crack. It’s the number one thing I feel shy about, when speaking in front of friends or clients, and I know my lips are dry and peeling. Plus, there are some of us who have yet to outgrow the habit of peeling our lips!
The thought of exfoliating lips gives me a weird ticklish feeling, but it’s an essential step to healthy lips! Lace & Rue’s lip buff in coffee flavor might just make you enjoy it, or you can try this lip polish and exfoliator that simultaneously heals your lips, too.
Simply wet lips with water, before placing a pea-sized amount of the scrub on your lips, then scrub gently! Rinse off with water, and you’ll feel the smoothness of your lips.
I used to be guilty putting sunscreen on my skin but forgetting my lips. But they say that even on regular days, you have to always put a balm loaded with vitamins and nourishing ingredients (like this shea butter one to provide your lips with sun protection.)
I recommend getting one in fancy packaging so you can shamelessly re-apply throughout the day, or try the tinted, cherry-flavored ones, if you must!
This isn’t to say exclude your matte tubes from your life forever. Just remember to give your lips a rest, because while mattes are longer lasting, its flat colors with high pigment concentration can cause your lips to stain or darken.
Same as with bold, dark colors, which I love. On the other hand, bright and light aren’t so bad. Consider this hydrating lipstick in this too-sweet-for-desserts hue, or this paraben-free one, available in peachy notes, light coral, and more.
Contrary to popular belief, wearing lip color (as opposed to nothing) can actually do your lips better—that is, if you use products that are packed with moisturizing ingredients. The world would be a sad place if we all went around bare-lipped!
For starters, try this one with mango butter, peach nectar, and avocado oils, or this lip tint that’s packed with hydrating vitamins. Then seal the deal with this lip balm, infused with aloe leaf extract and shea butter for extra moisture.
Other than drinking eight to ten glasses of water, coconut water or tea, water-rich fruits and veggies can also hydrate you—resulting in softer, plumper lips.
Adding fish to your diet also hydrates you from within, and that’s good news for me. But if you’re not so much of a fish eater, you can try fish oil pills!
