Did you know there are approximately 550 hairs on your eyebrow? Do you know how many ways you can groom them? About five. Let’s get to know each one!
1. Shaving or with the use of a blade
The upside to using a blade is the clean shave. I love how my eyebrow feels and looks right after. So clean! And you can really change the shape this way, especially if you have generous hair on the brow. The downside though, you can seriously shave all your eyebrows off in one wrong flick and sometimes the eyebrow hairs do not grow back. Leave this method to the pros.
2. Threading
An eyebrow grooming method from Asia and the Middle East which literally makes use of thread. This is also my favorite because it’s fast and really takes care of all the hairs including the ones not visible to the naked eye. Be very choosy though when it comes to selecting a threader. And like your relationship with your hairstylist, stick to one for eyebrow shape consistency. This is best for wayward brows or brows which have a tendency to grow in all directions. This method “trains” the brow to follow one direction.
3. Waxing
Waxing’s great for the boys or anyone with Frida Kahlo-like brows. My least favorite brow grooming method probably because I’m so afraid of eyelid sag. This is great for virgin brows though but you need some growth in between sessions or else you might rip the skin and never a hot wax that might inflict damage to the sensitive skin on the eye area. Works best on long-ish eyebrow hairs.
4. Plucking or tweezing
This is my favorite eyebrow grooming method. The only thing is that it takes time, a well-lit area, a magnifying glass or perfect vision. I love plucking because it is so precise and clean. The downside to this method though is if you overdo it, you can seriously cause permanent damage. Next thing you know, your brows are pencil thin from the 1970s. Forgo this method if you are not sure what to do with a tweezer and clueless about eyebrow shaping.
5. Trimming
Trimming works best on eyebrow hairs with long strands. The best trick I learned to get a neat eyebrow trim is brushing all the hair downward and trim the excess or growth that goes over your eyebrow line. This is also great for cleaning up visible unibrow. You’ll need an angled mirror for this one and a slight hand.
