The Pros
I love an inky-black kohl pencil eyeliner. Hourglass follows through by naming this one “film noir” – a rich, intense and true glossy black. Its soft texture glides along the lid without tugging and goes on smoothly. Hourglass‘ version comes in a sleek gilded box so you will never have to fumble for it in the dark or in the bottomless pit that is your handbag. They added a removable sharpener on the other end of the pencil which solves the problem of finding the right sharpener size for your liner. The pencil itself is slender and tapered, reminiscent of those old hollywood glam cigarettes used by women with long elegant satin gloves and a turban.
The Cons
I wish that instead of a shiny box, that they made the actual pencil gilded instead. The pencil itself is black, so if you’re like me who tosses the box so it can fit in my bag then you will be fumbling for this one. The tapered irregular length doesn’t make it fit in a regular makeup kit, not to mention you can’t use up the whole length of the pencil. The sharpener tip makes the pencil extra-long also but you can leave it at home for when you don’t need it to lessen the bulk. The pencil itself is not smudge or weather proof so line conservatively and have a few q-tips on standby to clean up mistakes or smudges.
The Final Verdict
It’s great for tight and water lining. It says everything it is on the label. Great as a glam make up gift for the holidays.
